Basic Computer Forensics Training

PLUS! Basic Network Forensics

Strategic Intelligence Services is proud to offer their acclaimed Computer Forensics training to both the private sector and the law enforcement community. Many have attended in the past and have given their recommendations. Here are a few:

"I have received several calls from investigators affiliated with the Utah Defense Association asking about courses. . . I'll definitely recommend this one." Utah Federal Defenders Computer Systems Administrator

"I was most fortunate to be able to attend the SIS Basic Computer Forensics course. I strongly recommend this course for your consideration . . . While it is a Basic course, the incredible amount of information and hands-on training received is amazing." California PI

"This course will teach you what government agents and investigators should have done, help you identify strengths and weaknesses in the government's computer forensic evidence, and help you make sure the government follows proper computer forensic examination procedures." Washington PI

This is not your typical Computer Forensics course. SIS doesn't focus on one specific forensic tool as do most Computer Forensics courses. While you will use a specific tool to perform hands-on exercises in the lab, the emphasis of the course is on forensic techniques that can be applied to any tool you may wish to use. The goal is to arm you with the skills necessary to perform a comprehensive forensic examination on digital media using any tool available.

The Computer Forensics course covers:

· Forensic tools available to the investigative community
· Basic computer forensic technique
· Proper seizure of electronic evidence based on DOJ standards
· How to perform a forensic duplication of computer evidence
· How to validate the integrity of the evidence
· Proper handling and protection of evidence
· File system structure for FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS file systems
· Where hidden evidence resides
· How to establish a timeline
· How to properly extract evidence from different computer data storage areas
· How to detect popular data hiding techniques
· How to handle encrypted data

The Network Forensics course covers:

· How Computers communicate over networks.
· The main network communications protocols
· How to perform network surveillance.
· Dealing with legal issues
· Tracing e-mail
· Tracing chat and Instant Messaging
· Where to find evidence
· Recognizing “spoofed” communications
· Working with ISPs. (Internet Service Providers)
· Common methods used to obscure identity on the Internet

At the conclusion of the course you will be familiar with how to conduct a basic computer forensic analysis using proper forensic technique. You will be able to establish the integrity of the evidence and be familiar with where to find and how to extract evidence from digital media including hard drives, floppy disks, etc. You will be able to examine Windows file system structures in detail and understand how data is stored on digital media. This understanding will help you locate digital evidence that might otherwise go unnoticed. If you also take the Network Forensics course you will also know how to conduct an Internet trace including tracing e-mail messages to their source and how to find and interpret evidence in network communications.

Attendees will receive a bundle of priceless professional Forensic Software
. . . plus both SIS's Basic Computer Forensics Manual and Basic Network Forensics Manual.
